10 Lbs.: Order # 8000 Gimbal Bearing Drive Head & Shoulder Screw You can use this drive head with your own engine alignment tool by drilling a 3/8 hole thru it. Slide the driver head onto your alignment bar and thread the 3/8 hardened shoulder screw thru it whenever you need to install a gimbal bearing. Your engine coupler is used to keep the tool straight while driving in the bearing. Before removing your old bearing, slide the drive head onto the alignment shaft. Put the alignment shaft and drive head into your engine coupler until the alignment tool bottoms out into the engine coupler. Move the drive head against your old gimbal bearing and put a mark behind the drive head.
Remove the alignment tool and drive head from your boat. Now move the drive head 1/4 of an inch away from the mark, toward the small end of the tool.
This is so when you drive in the new bearing, the alignment tool will not bottom out against the back of the coupler. Now set the tool up in your drill press and use a 3/8 drill to transfer the hole thru your engine alignment tool.

Should i drive the bearing in from the outer ring or the inner? My auto type bearing driver kit there is only 1 head that fits and it rests in the center ring, the center ring sticks out more than outer ring and i would need a BIG socket or the correct driver head to tap in bearing from outer ring. After 3hrs to install the new drive to housing water hose i am a bit frustrated and need any tips i can get. Homeport: LBI,NJ RO# Posted - Apr 19 2009: 10:49:33 Do you have a manual?
I would assume you need to drive the bearing in from the outer ring. If you tried to drive it in from the inner ring you would certainly put a lot of stress on the bearings. Not a good thing. Homeport: Hyde Park, NY RO# Posted - Apr 19 2009: 11:52:13 You need to drive it in from the outer casing and NOT by using a rod or bar stock. This peens over the housing and it wont go in fully.A full circular tool like a bearing driver or I`ll post a pic of mine. Homeport: NJ RO# Posted - Apr 19 2009: 21:49:40 some say to install the bearing with the 2 notches facing out and some say notches in??
